KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has dismissed any comparison between Karachi and Lahore, stating that the two cities differ fundamentally in scale and dynamics. Speaking to the media, Wahab remarked, “We don’t compare apples with bananas,” adding that Lahore’s entire size is comparable to just one neighborhood in Karachi—Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Critique of Lahore’s Infrastructure
During his talk, the Mayor pointed out administrative gaps in Lahore, claiming that their pumping stations are outsourced and sewage plants remain non-functional. He urged critics to acknowledge the positive developments currently taking place in Karachi instead of making one-sided comparisons.
Field Inspection of Development Projects
The Mayor’s statements came during an extensive visit to several ongoing infrastructure projects across the city, including Jahangir Road, Teen Hatti, Sakhi Hassan, Nazimabad, Shadman Nala, Ajmer Nagri, and S.M. Taufeeq Road. Accompanied by DG Technical Services Tariq Mughal, the Mayor was briefed on the progress of these sites. He announced that one track of Jahangir Road has been opened to traffic, while work on the second track is being expedited to ease public commuting.
Commitment to Quality
Wahab emphasized that there would be no compromise on the quality of construction. He stated that in addition to mandatory third-party inspections, the provincial government is maintaining strict internal oversight. “The ongoing work across the city is proof that only Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision can truly transform Karachi,” the Mayor asserted. He concluded by promising more “good news” regarding the city’s infrastructure and road networks in the coming days, noting that the PPP-led local government is actively working on both major arteries and town-level streets.
