KARACHI: A high-level meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Board, chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi, has announced major transport reforms aimed at streamlining public commuting across the city. As part of these new measures, rickshaws will now be fitted with mandatory digital meters to combat arbitrary fare-gouging, ensuring that fares are calculated strictly based on the distance traveled. Additionally, bus routes are set to be redesigned in alignment with public demand under the proposed Karachi Mobility Project, placing priority on underserved suburban areas while phasing out excessively long routes to improve overall transit efficiency. Furthermore, upgrades have officially commenced to computerize traffic signals across the city, starting with an initial phase covering five major intersections.
