KARACHI: The provincial capital has alarmingly transformed into a “city of heart patients,” with an average of 103 individuals rushed to hospitals daily following cardiac arrests.
Disturbingly, the deadly disease is no longer confined to the elderly. A groundbreaking report has sounded the alarm, revealing that a substantial number of Karachi’s youth are now falling prey to cardiovascular complications.
The Staggering Numbers
According to annual data released by the Tabba Heart Institute, a staggering 74,347 individuals suffered heart attacks in Karachi during the year 2025 alone. These unprecedented statistics have sent shockwaves through the medical community.
The daily breakdown of these figures paints a grim picture. Out of the total daily admissions, 10 patients are under the age of 40, while 2 patients are under the age of 30. Medical experts warn that the escalating rate of heart disease among the youth is a dangerous omen for the city’s future.
A Decade-Long Crisis
A comprehensive 10-year analysis conducted from 2016 to March 2026 evaluated 407,503 cardiac patients. The findings confirm a shifting demographic trend, revealing that 8% of the total patients were aged 40 or younger, and 2% of the total patients were under 30 years old.
Key Triggers and Expert Warnings
Health experts have identified several critical lifestyle factors driving this early-onset cardiac crisis in the metropolis. The primary triggers include excessive smoking, rising rates of diabetes and obesity, chronic high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and sedentary lifestyles with a lack of physical activity.
The Bottom Line: Medical professionals warn that if citizens do not immediately adopt healthier lifestyle changes, the cardiovascular crisis in Karachi will spiral further out of control in the coming years.
