KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Wing (CTW) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered a major illicit network involved in issuing Pakistani passports to Afghan nationals using forged documents, sources reported on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, the FIA’s anti-terrorism unit conducted a targeted raid at the Awami Markaz Passport Office in Karachi. During the operation, the Assistant Director of the passport office was taken into custody for questioning, and official records were thoroughly scrutinized.
According to initial reports, the raid led to the recovery of documents belonging to over 70 foreign nationals—believed to be Afghan citizens—who were attempting to obtain, or had already obtained, Pakistani passports through fraudulent means. A formal investigation has been launched by the FIA Counter-Terrorism Wing to examine the seized documents and determine the full extent of the syndicate, including the involvement of other officials within the department.
