KARACHI – In a major move to revamp the city’s crumbling infrastructure, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewed 10 mega development projects worth over Rs. 10 billion. These projects, executed by the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) under the Local Government Department, aim to improve traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and upgrade the drainage systems across the metropolis.
Presiding over a high-level meeting at CM House, Murad Ali Shah directed all relevant departments to ensure timely completion and maintain high construction standards. He emphasized the need for long-term urban planning to address the challenges of Karachi’s growing population.
Key Projects Highlighted:
North Karachi Flyovers: A proposed flyover at Power House Chowrangi (Rs. 2.5 billion) and another at 4K Chowrangi (Rs. 2.377 billion) to divert 80% of direct traffic. Clifton & Coastal Connectivity: A Rs. 600 million project to link Clifton Blocks 1-5 with Marine Drive, including drainage improvements and the restoration of the Bilawal Chowrangi Nullah. Korangi & Landhi Corridors: Construction of an alternative corridor from Malir Court to Murtaza Chowrangi (Rs. 582 million) and the reconstruction of Meher-un-Nisa Hospital Road (Rs. 660 million). Orangi-Baldia Link: A Rs. 2.2 billion project to upgrade the road from Football Stadium Baldia to Shahrah-e-Orangi, connecting Orangi Town, Baldia, and Hub River Road. Strategic Links: Restoration of Mehran Pajero Road (linking Gulzar-e-Hijri to M-9) and the expansion of Haji Camp Road from MT Khan Road to Mai Kolachi.
Focus on Sustainability and Aesthetics
The Chief Minister also reviewed the beautification and drainage restoration of Shahrah-e-Faisal’s service roads. He instructed the CEO of Water Board and DG KDA to coordinate closely to ensure that drainage issues are resolved before finishing the aesthetic upgrades.
“Karachi is the economic engine of Pakistan. Improving its road network is our top priority to reduce travel time and boost economic activity,” CM Murad Ali Shah stated.
Commitment to Transparency
Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah briefed the meeting that KMC and KDA are working under a unified vision to implement a comprehensive urban development strategy. The CM warned that any delays in these projects would not be tolerated, demanding transparency and effective monitoring at every stage.
The provincial government reiterated that its focus is not just on laying asphalt, but on a holistic approach involving sewage management, traffic engineering, and sustainable urban beautification.
