KARACHI: In a significant crackdown on organized street crime, the Malir Cantt Police have dismantled a gang involved in the buying and selling of stolen and snatched motorcycles. The operation led to the arrest of four suspects, including the ringleader, and the recovery of a massive cache of spare parts.
The Operation
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team conducted a targeted raid and apprehended the suspects. According to a spokesperson for the District Malir Police, the gang was led by Murid Hussain, who allegedly managed the entire network of trading stolen vehicles. His accomplices have been identified as Ghulam, Riaz, and Sajid.
Modus Operandi
The investigation revealed that the gang would purchase stolen motorcycles from street criminals across different areas of the city and move them to secret locations. They would then dismantle the bikes and sell the parts to various warehouses and workshops to avoid detection.
Recovered Items
During the raid, police seized a large quantity of motorcycle components and transport vehicles. The recovered items include over 30 sets of spare parts from stolen motorcycles, 14 fuel tanks, 57 mudguards, 31 clamps, jumps, and chain covers. Additionally, numerous tires, rims, chassis of various stolen motorcycles, and 2 loader rickshaws used for transporting the dismantled parts were also confiscated.
Current Status
The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the trade of numerous stolen vehicles during preliminary interrogation. The Malir Cantt Police are now focusing on identifying the buyers and workshop owners who facilitated this trade. Further investigations are underway to trace more links to the network.
