KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar, has announced a significant reduction in storage charges at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) terminals, ranging from 25% to 50%, to facilitate exporters and ease port congestion.
According to details, the relief package is specifically designed for exporters dealing with delayed shipments to Gulf countries and cargo currently stuck at the ports. Minister Junaid Anwar stated that these measures aim to reduce financial pressure on the business community and provide a much-needed push to national exports.
Key Highlights of the Relief Package:
The Minister outlined a specific timeline and discount structure for various terminals: KGTL (Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited): 50% waiver on storage charges from March 1st to March 20th. KICT (Karachi International Container Terminal): 50% discount applicable from March 1st to March 10th. SAPT (South Asia Pakistan Terminals): 25% reduction in charges from March 11th to March 31st.
“We are taking proactive steps to resolve logistical issues and improve cargo clearance. Our goal is to align the port system with modern international trade requirements,” said the Federal Minister.
Junaid Anwar also lauded the efforts of Chairman KPT Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed for his role in implementing these trade-friendly policies. He emphasized that streamlining port operations is essential for the country’s economic stability and smoother supply chain management.
