KARACHI: The Sindh Police has failed to present a strong interim charge sheet (challan) against notorious drug dealer Anmol, alias Pinky, in a high-profile murder case. The police submitted the interim challan along with a scrutiny report to the Judicial Magistrate (South).
According to details, the flaws in the police investigation were so severe that Deputy District Public Prosecutor Arif Sitai—the state attorney tasked with ensuring Pinky’s conviction—was ironically forced to point out critical gaps, raising a series of serious objections against the police’s submission.
Key Objections Raised by the Prosecutor:
In his formal scrutiny note, District Public Prosecutor Arif Sitai highlighted several critical lapses by the Investigative Officer (IO). He noted that there is an unexplained delay of nearly one month between the occurrence of the incident and the registration of the FIR, while the submission of the charge sheet itself was delayed by 12 days. Furthermore, the IO failed to gather essential background information to establish the identity of the deceased.
The prosecutor also pointed out sheer negligence regarding evidence collection, stating that the investigation team failed to collect or preserve CCTV footage from the crime scene and its surroundings, which was crucial to proving the deceased’s connection with the accused and her drug network. Additionally, the IO made no effort to trace or record statements from independent eyewitnesses who might have seen the deceased purchasing illicit drugs or interacting with the accused’s accomplices. Finally, with the chemical examination report of the deceased’s viscera samples still awaited, the current investigation remains legally incomplete.
What’s Next?
The District Public Prosecutor stated that while the flawed interim report is being forwarded to the court to meet legal formalities, the police must gather further solid evidence. A final and comprehensive charge sheet will only be submitted once the investigation is genuinely completed and all pending forensic reports are received.
