NADRA Introduces Free, At-Home “Proof of Life” Digital Certificates for Pensioners

KARACHI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a completely free and accessible Proof of Life (Certificate of Existence) service for pensioners across Pakistan. Initiated under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and in collaboration with key government and military accounts departments, this reform aims to eliminate the hassle of elderly, bedridden, or disabled citizens having to visit banks or pension offices physically.

Eligible pensioners can conveniently obtain their certificates from the comfort of their homes using the Pak ID mobile application. For those unable to use the app independently, family members can easily complete the verification process through their own accounts. To ensure maximum accessibility, the service is also provided free of charge across more than 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises, nearly 1,000 NADRA Registration Centers featuring priority queuing, and 500 union councils. Furthermore, mobile registration vans, biker services, and main pack services have been deployed to cater directly to immobile or restricted individuals.

As a core component of these broader structural reforms, NADRA has established the National Pensioners Register (NPR). This automated digital framework streamlines vital event reporting so that families no longer need to notify multiple departments repeatedly regarding a pensioner’s status. NADRA also provides a dedicated verification service enabling authorized banks to check a pensioner’s status directly via the NPR, significantly reducing unnecessary paperwork and mandatory personal appearances. Following the initial rollout for accounts managed by the CGA and MAG, plans are already underway to expand this integrated digital framework to other federal, provincial, public-sector, and private-sector pensioners in subsequent phases.
