Pakistan Goods Transport Sector Demands Immediate Diesel Price Stabilization And 15 Day Review Mechanism

KARACHI: The All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association, led by President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate, has officially rejected the recent hike in diesel prices and called for an immediate halt to frequent price escalations. The association highlighted that the government currently collects over 100 rupees in taxes and duties on a single liter of diesel, compounding financial pressure on both transporters and the general public, and urged authorities to review these heavy levies to provide relief. Emphasizing the broader economic impact, the leadership noted that rising diesel costs ripple across the entire economy by driving up freight rates, impacting industries, and creating uncertainty for the business community due to unpredictable price fluctuations. Citing a prior written agreement with goods transporters, the association demanded the implementation of a consistent 15-day pricing review system for petroleum products rather than frequent adjustments. Concluding their statement, they stressed that price stability is key to curbing inflation and urged the government to support the transport sector—the backbone of the economy—instead of imposing further financial burdens.
