KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab launched a scathing critique against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), accusing them of attempting to divide the city for vested political and financial interests.
Addressing a ceremony at the Garden Pumping Station, the Mayor highlighted that the infrastructure project, constructed in 2005 during an era dominated by MQM and JI, had remained non-functional for years while local residents were misled with empty promises. He urged JI leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman to take federal grievances directly to Islamabad rather than staging protests that paralyze Karachi’s roads and inconvenience citizens.
Furthermore, Mayor Wahab accused MQM of fostering a long-standing legacy of linguistic polarization, fear, and intimidation in Karachi. Asserting that this divisive political chapter has been permanently buried, he claimed that current maneuvers to partition the metropolis are covertly driven by corruption and illegal land allocation practices.
