KARACHI – A high-level delegation from the British High Commission, led by Political Counsellor Nicole Roberts and Deputy High Commissioner Tom Bridge, held a strategic meeting with senior leadership of the Sindh Government at the residence of Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The high-level dialogue focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across key developmental sectors, including trade, technical skill development, environmental sustainability, local governance, and women’s empowerment.
Highlighting the province’s economic potential, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon briefed the British diplomats on lucrative investment opportunities in Sindh. He proposed organizing joint workshops for UK-Pakistan business leaders and encouraged premier British universities to establish campuses locally. To foster sustainable economic growth, the Sindh government showcased its green transit initiatives—most notably Pakistan’s first fleet of Electric Buses and planned charging networks—alongside youth employment drives like the “I Work for Sindh” portal and targeted agricultural support through the Hari Card scheme.
Central to the discussion was Sindh’s focus on social inclusion and gender equity. The British delegation was briefed on transformative measures such as the distribution of free Pink Scooties—which contributed to female driving license applications surging from 450 to 25,000—and the upcoming deployment of an all-female Electric Taxi Service. Furthermore, the provincial leadership emphasized that ownership of 2.1 million flood-reconstructed homes, under the world’s largest housing project, is being granted directly to women to ensure long-term socio-economic stability.
In addition to provincial development matters, the Sindh government raised serious concerns regarding ongoing human rights violations in Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, calling on the international community to play an active role. Concluding the meeting, the British High Commission representatives commended the Sindh Government’s progressive advancements in eco-friendly transport, post-flood rehabilitation, and socio-economic reform, affirming their commitment to exploring future avenues of mutual cooperation.
