KARACHI: The Sindh Information Commission (SIC) has officially dismissed a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by MQM-P leader Dr. Farooq Sattar, which sought the public release of the Judicial Commission’s inquiry report on the Gul Plaza tragedy. In its detailed verdict, the Commission incorporated the Chief Secretary’s stance, emphasizing that the official investigation and implementation process are actively underway. Consequently, releasing the report at this sensitive stage would violate legal protocols and potentially impede ongoing police inquiries and FIR proceedings.
The Commission further clarified that the judicial inquiry report will remain classified for the time being to ensure undisturbed legal proceedings. However, once the police complete their investigation and submit the formal charge sheet (challan) to the court, the findings will automatically become part of the public record. In response to the ruling, MQM-P leadership announced that they will conduct a thorough legal review of the Commission’s written verdict before determining their next course of action.
