KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has emphasized the urgent need for serious deliberation on issues related to neighboring countries, highlighting the regional complexities impacting peace and security. He expressed these views while addressing the closing session of a strategic planning workshop organized by the Sindh Center for Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (SCECVE) in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at a local hotel in Karachi.
The Home Minister stated that such workshops provide an effective platform to find practical and lasting solutions to contemporary challenges. He urged all stakeholders to play a positive role and engage in collective efforts for societal improvement. Meanwhile, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah also addressed the session, arguing that modernizing the education system is indispensable for eradicating extremism. He specifically called for the promotion of critical thinking and skill-based education as a long-term solution.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar further identified educational reforms—from primary to higher education levels—as the primary tool for countering extremist ideologies. The closing session was attended by several high-ranking officials and experts, including Home Secretary Sindh Iqbal Memon, SSP CTD Operations Irfan Bahadur, and SSP Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) Asif Raza Baloch. Representatives from law enforcement agencies, educationists, international partners, and religious leaders from various faiths also participated in the session to discuss institutional collaboration for social harmony.
