KARACHI: The federal government has decided to swiftly introduce a comprehensive land lease and incentive package for the Karachi Industrial Park. This decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, with a primary focus on driving national exports, optimizing resource allocation, and addressing critical infrastructure challenges. Under the proposed framework, land allotment and incentives will be prioritized for export-oriented industries and strictly linked to clear, measurable export targets. To ensure optimal execution and transparency, a robust accountability mechanism will be established to prevent the misuse of industrial land and state-backed incentives.
Recognizing that multiple industrialists are eager to establish export-driven ventures given the right support, Minister Ahad Cheema has directed relevant authorities to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of essential utilities. Consequently, coordination is underway with the Sindh Government to secure water supplies and construct an 11-kilometer approach road, while the Ministry of Petroleum and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have been tasked with ensuring reliable gas provision to the park. Ultimately, this strategic initiative is projected to significantly boost Pakistan’s exports while playing a vital role in reducing the financial liabilities of Pakistan Steel Mills.
