KARACHI: The judicial commission investigating the high-profile Mir Raza case has directed the young businessman’s partner, Ahmed, to meet with the victim’s family and address their concerns in a notarized written statement if he holds critical information. During the proceedings, Justice Omar Sial expressed severe displeasure with former investigating officer Shabbir Leghari, accusing him of remaining passive during evidence collection and post-mortem procedures while merely signing off on documents prepared by others to protect senior officials. The commission remarked that the police severely mishandled the case, noting that while unsolved cases occur globally, grieving families rarely express such profound distrust unless systemic failures are evident. Furthermore, speaking to the media, Jibran Nasir, counsel for Mir Raza’s father, revealed that 23 out of 33 witness statements were recorded by unauthorized police officers rather than the designated investigator—a fact allegedly admitted before the commission—while alleging that the newly formed investigation team’s primary motive is to protect fellow officers.
