KARACHI: In alignment with the Sindh government’s ongoing austerity measures, the Sindh Police department has issued a high-level directive to slash petroleum consumption by 33% across various units. The order, issued by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, applies to all Additional IGs, DIGs, SSPs, and AIGs. The primary goal is to significantly reduce monthly expenditures on fuel during the fourth quarter.
To ensure that law enforcement and crime prevention are not compromised, Police Station patrolling mobiles have been exempted from these cuts, and their fuel quotas will remain unchanged to maintain operational efficiency. However, all other administrative units and police offices are strictly required to reduce their fuel usage by one-third. Every unit head has been instructed to devise a customized fuel plan based on their specific operational needs and submit a revised petroleum consumption strategy within three days.
The IGP has made it clear that exceeding the assigned fuel credit limit will not be tolerated. The directive warns of disciplinary action against Unit Heads and Motor Transport Officers (MTOs) if violations are detected. This move is part of a broader provincial effort to manage financial resources more effectively amidst rising economic challenges.
