KARACHI: In a major development regarding the Gul Plaza tragedy, the police have officially submitted a formal charge sheet (chalan) holding Union President Tanveer Pasta and his close associates responsible for the incident. According to the investigation report, the nominated individuals include Union Vice President Huzaifa Ammar Ismail, General Secretary Amin, Joint Secretary Muhammad Ramadan, and Nematullah, the owner of the shop where the fire originally broke out.
However, in a significant turn of events, the prosecution has rejected the four-page police chalan along with its hundreds of supporting documents, officially returning it due to an “insufficient” investigation. The prosecution noted critical gaps in the initial probe and directed the police to immediately attach the official Inquiry Commission’s report to the case file. Furthermore, the authorities have been instructed to retrieve and include CCTV footage from buildings surrounding Gul Plaza and actively locate eyewitnesses from the vicinity of the flower shop, an effort the police had previously neglected.
