KARACHI: A severe traffic accident occurred in the upscale neighborhood of DHA Phase 6 near Badar Commercial on Saba Avenue, where a speeding Suzuki vehicle crashed into the entrance of Imambargah Baqiyatullah. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan Police Station while a religious congregation (Majlis) was actively underway inside the venue. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle suddenly lost control, violently breached the protective security barricades installed outside, and rammed directly into the main entrance gate, striking several bystanders who were present at the spot.
Initial investigations led by DIG South, Asad Raza, suggest that the catastrophic crash was caused by a sudden brake failure. The accident resulted in injuries to more than 11 individuals, predominantly women and young children, with victims ranging from 3 to 45 years of age. Promptly responding to the emergency, rescue teams from the Edhi and Chhipa foundations rushed to the scene, provided initial first aid, and immediately transported the injured to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for urgent medical treatment.
The incident triggered widespread panic and anxiety across the locality, drawing a large crowd of concerned citizens to the crash site. In response, law enforcement authorities took swift action by impounding the vehicle and detaining four occupants who were riding in the car at the time of the accident. While the primary evidence points toward a mechanical failure, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation exploring various angles to conclusively determine the exact circumstances behind the crash.
