KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to resolve a complaint regarding prolonged power outages and feeder faults in the New Karachi Industrial Area within one month.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel argued that industrial units in the area are enduring severe load-shedding lasting 14 to 16 hours daily, which has severely disrupted manufacturing operations. The court was informed that despite multiple complaints lodged with both K-Electric and NEPRA regarding unstable power supply and faulty feeders, the issue remains unresolved. The counsel emphasized that ensuring uninterrupted electricity to industrial consumers is a legal obligation of K-Electric.
The High Court noted that the petitioner has already approached the relevant legal forum, NEPRA. Consequently, the SHC disposed of the petition with instructions for NEPRA to hear all stakeholders and issue a formal decision in accordance with the law within 30 days.
