KARACHI – In a move to bolster recreational activities in the provincial capital, the Sindh Government has announced the revival of Drive-In Cinemas in Karachi. The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Department, chaired by the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah. The session was attended by Secretary Culture Khair Muhammad Kalwar, along with Directors General of Culture, Libraries, and the Gorakh Hill Station.
Key Highlights of the Meeting
Following the current austerity drive, the department will prioritize the restoration of Drive-In Cinemas to provide unique outdoor entertainment for Karachiites. The third phase of the Train Safari from Karachi to Sukkur will be launched soon, while ferry and water sports services are set to begin at Keenjhar Lake. Plans were also discussed to fully activate Arts Councils in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Furthermore, several projects, including the Wafa Nathan Shahi Library (Khairpur Nathan Shah), Moro Culture Centre, and the Public Library in Kashmore, will be opened to the public shortly. A special Gorakh Festival will be organized at the hill station once conditions improve, alongside ongoing developmental works to facilitate tourists.
Austerity and Welfare
Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah emphasized that all projects would align with the Chief Minister’s austerity guidelines. He also highlighted that a more streamlined system is being introduced to address the grievances of artists, writers, and poets across the province.
“Our goal is to modernize cultural and tourism centers while ensuring that the public receives the best possible facilities within our resources,” the Minister stated during the briefing.
