KARACHI: In anticipation of the rain spell expected to hit the city starting Wednesday, Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has placed all relevant departments, including Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Assistant Commissioners (ACs), and Mukhtiarkars, on high alert to manage any potential emergencies. The Commissioner emphasized that all agencies must be fully prepared to implement their rain-contingency plans to prevent infrastructure damage, minimize public inconvenience, and ensure swift restoration work. All departments have been directed to submit their detailed emergency response plans to the Commissioner’s Office immediately.
Rescue Helpline 1299 Activated: The Commissioner has alerted the Rescue Helpline 1299 at the Commissioner’s Office. This line will serve as a central hub for public assistance, awareness, and inter-departmental coordination during the rain emergency.
Control Rooms and Help Desks: All Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to activate control rooms within their respective offices and establish dedicated help desks for immediate response.
Official Directives Issued: Formal written orders have been dispatched to the Additional IG Karachi, DIG Traffic, Municipal Commissioner of KMC, Provincial Health Secretary, Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation, and K-Electric to ensure seamless coordination. Commissioner Naqvi stressed that the primary goal is to ensure the safety of citizens and provide timely relief in case of urban flooding or other rain-related incidents.
