KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has approved a two-year extension on tax and registration concessions for non-commercial electric vehicles (EVs) until May 29, 2028. Chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the provincial cabinet greenlit this policy to curb urban air pollution, reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels, and promote sustainable, eco-friendly transport across the province. Under the approved package, the registration fee for electric vehicles is maintained at a flat rate of PKR 1,000, while the annual motor vehicle tax for non-commercial EVs is fixed at PKR 500. Additionally, electric motorcycles will be subject to a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of PKR 500, and a luxury tax of PKR 5,000 will apply to high-end electric vehicles equivalent to 2,000 CC engines and above. A minimal fine of PKR 1,000 has been set for late vehicle registration, with the extended incentive package officially running from May 30, 2026, through May 29, 2028. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that expanding this EV incentive framework is pivotal to reducing carbon emissions, improving urban air quality, and attracting green investments into Sindh’s burgeoning electric mobility sector.
