Massive Education Protests Shake India: Police Clashes Ignite Calls for Modi’s Resignation

Tensions have escalated significantly across India as massive protests against controversial educational reforms and government policies resulted in violent clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement. A large coalition comprising students, parents, and social activists initiated a massive march toward the Indian Parliament to voice their grievances. The situation intensified dramatically following the forced detention and subsequent hospitalization of renowned social activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk. In response to his arrest, student organizations mobilized nationwide demonstrations, pushing the movement further.

To halt the advancing crowd near the Parliament, the Delhi police deployed tear gas and resorted to baton charges, leading to chaotic scenes and injuries. Amidst the rising unrest, the core demands of the protesters shifted from policy opposition to political accountability, with widespread calls for the immediate resignation of both the Education Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amplifying these demands, Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, heavily criticized the state’s heavy-handed tactics, labeling Wangchuk’s detention as an authoritarian move and demanding immediate government accountability.
