KARACHI: A massive corruption scandal has surfaced within the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) involving the alleged fake allotment, illegal transfer of ownership, and tampering of records of high-value commercial and residential plots worth over Rs 1 billion. In response to this multi-million dollar fraud, the Director General (DG) of KDA has expressed severe anger and ordered an immediate high-level inquiry to bring the culprits to justice.
As part of the immediate action, the Director of Land Management has been instructed to seal all relevant records and submit a comprehensive inquiry report within a strict 15-day deadline. The scope of this probe focuses on eight prime properties located in Karachi’s key residential and commercial hubs, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B. Area, and Surjani Town. Investigators will meticulously scrutinize the entire allotment history, leasing documents, ownership transfers, and the current physical possession of these plots. Additionally, the team is investigating a specific case in Surjani Town where a commercial plot spanning over 875 square yards was illegally transferred through bogus files and a rigged auction process.
However, the internal decision to hand over the inquiry to the Land Department itself has sparked significant concern and pushback within KDA. Fearing a potential cover-up, several senior officials are strongly demanding that this billion-rupee scandal be immediately handed over to independent federal watchdogs, such as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), to ensure a completely transparent and unbiased investigation.
