Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and a fine of €255 (approx. $285) by the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following an unauthorized departure from the national team’s training camp in Copenhagen ahead of a Nations League fixture against Denmark.
The dispute stems from Ronaldo’s dissatisfaction with national team coach Jorge Jesus after being benched for the match against Norway. Ronaldo alleged that the head coach breached verbal commitments regarding his role in the squad on two separate occasions, prompting his decision to leave the camp. Coach Jesus denied making any such guarantees, though he subsequently signaled that the door remains open for Ronaldo’s return.
The FPF ruled that Ronaldo willfully violated Article 160(1) of its disciplinary code. However, the federation has not yet clarified which specific fixtures or activities fall under the 30-day ban, or whether previous provisional suspension time counts toward the penalty.
Ronaldo has since issued an apology to fans and teammates for departing the camp abruptly and ignoring supporters after the Norway match, confirming his intent to return to the national squad once his suspension is served.
