KARACHI: A Karachi Additional District and Sessions Court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the Deputy Commissioner Central following persistent non-appearances in a compensation case involving 72 residents displaced during the construction of the Lyari Expressway. The court directed police to arrest and produce the official on September 15 while also summoning the Additional Secretary of Local Government. According to counsel Advocate Sheikh Shaukat Ali, 72 leased homes were demolished for the project, leading the Sessions Court to order a disbursement of PKR 320 million to the victims in 2021. Although the case underwent rehearing following an appeal by the Sindh Government, the court reaffirmed that compensation must be paid. The enforcement petition specifically targeted the DC Central to ensure compliance, but the official repeatedly ignored court notices and failed to appear for hearings.
