KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon launched a scathing critique against federal ministers from MQM and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), dismissing them as unelected “Form 47 products” who lack true public representation. Addressing the Sindh Assembly session presided over by Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Memon strongly condemned federal figures—including Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Mustafa Kamal—for their recent statements opposing the 18th Constitutional Amendment. Defending the landmark amendment, Memon credited it for empowering provinces and driving significant progress in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, pointing to world-class institutions like Jinnah Hospital and NICVD, alongside the Thar coal energy project which currently supplies over 3,500 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. Challenging federal leadership over their criticism of provincial autonomy, Memon invited them to debate the issue inside Parliament with concrete facts and figures rather than making political statements in the media.
The assembly proceedings also touched on several other key matters, beginning with a resolution by an MQM lawmaker regarding highway streetlights, to which Memon countered that highways fall under federal jurisdiction and advised the party to raise the matter in the National Assembly instead. Later in the session, Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Muhammad Farooq raised serious concerns over Pakistani citizens held captive by Somali pirates for over four months, alongside the police detention of peaceful protesters demanding their release. Concluding the session, Speaker Awais Qadir Shah expressed deep concern over severe load-shedding and power crises in Sindh, directing the relevant committee to summon power company executives for an inquiry before adjourning the assembly until Tuesday afternoon.
