KARACHI: A private hospital in Nazimabad Gol Market, Karachi, became the center of a tense standoff after doctors performed a delivery procedure on a 38-week pregnant woman but subsequently claimed she was never pregnant.
The husband, Arshad Iqbal, brought his wife to the facility with full medical documentation, including ultrasound scans and a complete 38-week pregnancy record. According to Iqbal, following the surgical procedure, medical staff informed him that no infant was present and allegedly left the patient unattended with an open surgical incision, deepening the mystery.
Enraged by the situation and suspecting that the newborn had been abducted, grieving relatives staged a massive protest inside the hospital premises, prompting immediate police intervention. The patient has since been transferred to another private facility in North Nazimabad for emergency medical care.
Local police have initiated a formal investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and questioning hospital staff, including an IT employee detained while wearing patient attire. Authorities are examining all possible angles, including allegations of infant abduction, with the definitive truth expected to emerge once forensic evidence and digital records are fully analyzed.
