KARACHI: In a major crackdown against the rising trend of digital drug peddling, the District City Police and a federal intelligence agency have dismantled an organized 5-member gang involved in supplying narcotics to the youth via online platforms.
The Operation
According to SSP City Ali Hassan, the operation was carried out by the Garden Police in collaboration with a federal sensitive agency based on a high-value intelligence tip-off. The joint team conducted a raid in the city, successfully apprehending five key members of the network.
Suspects and Seizures
The arrested individuals have been identified as Farid, Sohail Ahmed, Umair Ahmed, Abid Hussain, and Asif. During the raid, law enforcement agencies recovered a significant cache of illegal items including 6 kilograms of high-quality Hashish (Chars) and Weed, along with one pistol and live ammunition.
Modus Operandi
The SSP City revealed that this organized group was utilizing modern technology and online platforms to target the youth and distribute drugs across various neighborhoods in Karachi. This digital approach allowed them to operate under the radar until the recent intelligence-led intervention.
Current Status
Cases have been registered against the suspects, and a formal investigation is underway. The police are currently scrutinizing the criminal records of the arrested individuals to trace their links with other facilitators and dismantle the rest of the network operating within the city.
