KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has categorically dismissed any possibility of the division of Sindh while President Asif Ali Zardari remains in office. Speaking to the media in Karachi, he emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) prioritizes the unity and integrity of Sindh above all political positions, asserting that leadership roles would be readily sacrificed to protect the province.
He further noted that the provincial government is actively legislating to empower the local government system, questioning the authority of the federal capital to dictate local governance structures when it lacks a comparable system itself. Highlighting the party’s deep-rooted regional commitment, Shah pointed out that top constitutional offices—including the party chairmanship, co-chairmanship, and the Chief Minister of Sindh—are all held by representatives from the province.
In related developments, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon strongly criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), holding them responsible for Karachi’s administrative challenges and past unrest. Meanwhile, Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed lashed out at Mustafa Kamal’s devolution slogans, pointing out that critics calling for decentralization currently hold provincial portfolios and should evaluate their own ministries first.
