KARACHI: Following a recent reduction in diesel prices, the Sindh government has initiated a strict crackdown against public transport operators who are failing to pass on the relief to passengers by lowering fares. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon took formal notice of the continued collection of old, inflated fares across various routes despite the fuel price drop. Emphasizing that providing financial relief to the public is a core government responsibility, the minister directed the Transport Secretary and relevant authorities to strictly enforce fare reductions immediately. With zero tolerance for overcharging, authorities have been instructed to ramp up surveillance on all transport routes to identify and penalize violators instantly. Transporters ignoring these directives will face strict legal consequences in accordance with the law as the provincial leadership reiterates its commitment to ensuring that citizens receive the full benefits of market price decreases without exploitation.
