KARACHI: In a historic milestone for the institution, the University of Karachi (KU) has officially launched its first-ever voluntary HIV and Hepatitis screening and awareness campaign dedicated to both students and employees. Officially approved by the Registrar’s Office and CDC Sindh, this landmark health initiative is being conducted directly at the university clinic under the close supervision of a specialized, CDC-nominated team.
The campaign has already made immediate progress, with over 20 students and staff members successfully completing their screenings during the initial phase. This campus-wide drive is entirely free, strictly confidential, and designed to promote a proactive approach to student and faculty wellness. To ensure comprehensive care, the Sindh Government has committed to providing complete treatment and medications free of charge to any individual who receives a positive diagnosis during these screenings.
Addressing the initiative, Dr. Hassan Auj emphasized that the primary goal of the drive is to facilitate early detection, which is vital for the successful management of HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. He urged the campus community to prioritize their health over hesitation, stressing that there is absolutely no shame in getting tested and that timely diagnosis is the key to effective treatment.
