KARACHI: A joyful family outing turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a father and his teenage daughter drowned in a canal near the Manghopir Mai Garhi area. The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Qasim, son of Abdul Aziz, and his 14-year-old daughter, Ayesha. Both were residents of Orangi Town Sector 13 and had traveled to the outskirts of the city for a picnic.
According to rescue officials, the incident took place within the jurisdictional limits of the Sakhran Police Station in District Hub. The tragedy unfolded when young Ayesha, who was bathing in the canal, began to struggle in the deep water. In a desperate and heroic attempt to save his daughter, Qasim jumped into the canal after her. However, the father and daughter were both swept away by the powerful water currents.
Rescue teams reached the spot and recovered the bodies, which were subsequently shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. The sudden loss has left the family and the Orangi Town community in deep mourning. Authorities have once again urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid entering deep or fast-flowing water during recreational trips.
