KARACHI – In a major operation against the systematic looting of national assets, the Bin Qasim Police has dismantled a professional gang involved in stealing iron and copper from the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).
The Operation
According to a spokesperson for the Malir Police, the crackdown took place on the night between Monday and Tuesday. Acting on intelligence reports regarding persistent scrap theft from the PSM premises, a police team conducted a raid near the facility and caught the culprits red-handed.
Suspects Apprehended
The police arrested nine members of the gang, identified as Rameez, Jahangir, Wali Khan, Anush, Salman, Waqas, Nasir, Yasin, and Ejaz.
Recovered Items & Modus Operandi
During the initial search, authorities recovered over 80 kilograms of stolen copper wire. Officials stated that the arrested group was involved in multiple incidents of scrap theft from the Steel Mills and used to sell the stolen material to various warehouses (godowns) across the city.
Current Status
Cases have been formally registered against the suspects. While an investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the losses, police are also conducting raids to apprehend other accomplices and the buyers of the stolen goods.
