KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, alongside Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and other elected representatives, officially inaugurated a major infrastructure development project worth over PKR 132.1 million in UC-09, Lines Area (District East). This comprehensive mega-project focuses on significantly upgrading the locality’s roads, internal streets, drainage, and sewerage systems. During the inauguration, the Mayor emphasized that providing basic amenities to citizens remains the top priority of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). He reiterated that development work is being carried out rapidly across the city without any discrimination to deliver quality civic services right to the public’s doorstep.
The technical scope of the project highlights a massive overhaul of the local infrastructure. To improve traffic flow and provide durable pathways for residents, over 232,000 square feet of tough paver blocks have been laid across internal streets and roads. Furthermore, to permanently resolve decades-old sewage issues, the project included the installation of more than 12,821 feet of RCC sewerage pipelines of varying diameters. To ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of this newly upgraded drainage system, 390 new RCC manholes were also constructed.
Addressing the ceremony, Barrister Murtaza Wahab also touched upon the political and administrative context of the area. He clarified that although these internal lanes fall under the jurisdiction of Jinnah Town rather than KMC, the provincial government stepped in to resolve the grievances of 20 streets due to the local Town leadership’s lack of interest. The Mayor dismissed critics of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), highlighting that the party and its allies are actively delivering on their promises. As proof of their rapid development governance, he pointed to landmark projects completed swiftly by the PPP, including the Azimpura Flyover, which was finished in a record 93 days, as well as Shahrah-e-Bhutto, the Taj Haider Bridge, and the Karimabad Underpass.
