Smart Policing: Karachi to Deploy AI Cameras for Automated No-Parking Violations

KARACHI: The Sindh Safe Cities Authority (SSCA) is significantly expanding its digital surveillance footprint in Karachi by deploying advanced “Smart No-Parking Cameras” to automatically detect illegally parked vehicles in restricted zones. According to Director General SSCA Sarfraz Nawaz, this initiative is a major upgrade to the city’s existing Karachi Safe City Project, which already utilizes a robust network of over 1,300 artificial intelligence-based cameras capable of automatically identifying individuals, vehicles, and activities.

By integrating this sophisticated AI network directly with the Traffic Police’s TRACS (Traffic Violation Action and Control System), the new cameras will stream real-time violation data to the control room. This allows the system to issue instant, contactless “faceless” e-challans to vehicle owners without requiring the physical presence of any traffic warden on the street. This tech-driven initiative is designed to streamline city traffic, enforce discipline, and transition Karachi into a smarter urban center, prompting the authority to urge citizens to park only in designated areas to avoid automatic fines and hassle.
