Slick Roads, Hard Falls: Light Drizzle Triggers Commuter Chaos in Karachi

KARACHI: While the low-level marine clouds brought a pleasant weather shift to Karachi with overnight and early morning drizzle, they simultaneously turned the city’s major thoroughfares into highly hazardous zones. The light rain mixed with road dust to create extremely slippery asphalt, causing numerous motorcyclists to lose control and suffer injuries during their morning commute to work. Major arteries—including Sharae Faisal, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, University Road, Main Korangi Road, Clifton, Defense, and the Expressway—experienced significant disruptions. Several injured riders from Shaheed-e-Millat Road and the Expressway were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for medical attention, while ordinary citizens were seen stepping forward to self-regulate traffic and prevent further accidents on the slick roads. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this cloudy weather with late-night and early-morning drizzle is expected to persist for the next two to three days, even as the rest of Sindh remains hot, dry, and humid. In light of these conditions, commuters are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, reduce their speed, and avoid sudden braking.
