Sindh Inks Major Deal for EV Taxi Service: A Leap Towards Green Transport and Job Creation

KARACHI: In a significant move towards modernizing urban transport and fostering eco-friendly technology, the Sindh Government has officially signed a landmark agreement to launch the Electric Vehicle (EV) Taxi Project across the province. The agreement was signed by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon alongside representatives from the Sindh Bank, Sindh Development Fund (SDF), and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority. The project aims to revolutionize public transport while simultaneously tackling environmental concerns and unemployment.

Empowering Youth and Women Speaking at the ceremony, Sharjeel Memon emphasized that the EV Taxi service is a fulfillment of the government’s promise to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for the youth. He stated that the priority is to create jobs and that this project is not just about transport but about empowering citizens. The Minister highlighted Sindh’s leadership in the transport sector, citing globally acclaimed initiatives like the Pink Bus Service—which features female drivers and conductors—and the introduction of Pink EV Scooters. He noted that the demand for licenses among women has skyrocketed from 150 to over 20,000, prompting the government to provide free training to help women join the workforce.

A Vision for Industrial Growth Sharjeel Memon invited industrialists to invest in the province, expressing the government’s ambition to establish an EV manufacturing plant in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone. He noted that as global trends shift, people in Pakistan are increasingly preferring electric vehicles over traditional fuel-powered ones.

Regional Politics and Economic Stability Beyond transport, the Minister addressed broader national issues. He credited federal efforts and the Pakistan Armed Forces for enhancing the country’s international standing. He also criticized the unprofessional language used by the Indian Foreign Minister, suggesting it reflects a lack of logical arguments against Pakistan’s growing influence. Regarding the inflation crisis, he assured that the government is working on a joint strategy to provide relief. He strongly condemned any attempts to sabotage Pakistan’s economy, specifically criticizing letters written to the IMF by political rivals, stating that national interests must never be compromised.

The EV Taxi service is expected to hit the roads soon, providing a safe, affordable, and green alternative for the commuters of Sindh.
