KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has announced major healthcare reforms focusing on Electronic Medical Records (EMR), mental health awareness, breast cancer screening, and specialized medical training.
An upcoming app and integrated EMR system will link primary, secondary, and tertiary hospitals, ensuring patient medical histories are seamlessly accessible across facilities. To address psychological well-being, Lady Health Workers and community health workers are being trained to identify depression and postpartum mental health issues, alongside plans to launch tele-therapy and telehealth services connecting district and divisional headquarters. Grassroots community campaigns will educate women on early symptoms and self-examination techniques for breast lumps to ensure early detection of breast cancer. Furthermore, a new postgraduate medical policy prioritizing specialization in critical shortage areas—such as anesthesiology, intensive care, vascular surgery, endocrinology, and dietetics—is being submitted to the cabinet for approval. Finally, ICU capacities are being expanded across Larkana, Sukkur, and Hyderabad, alongside the successful establishment of dedicated pediatric and neonatal ICUs in the public sector for the first time.
