KARACHI – In a move to modernize the city’s public transport infrastructure, Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Friday the addition of more Electric Vehicles (EV) and Double-Decker buses to Karachi’s transport network. The announcement came during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by the Senior Minister. The session was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Saleemullah Odho, and other key officials.
The provincial government is set to procure a fresh batch of EV and double-decker buses to cater to the growing demand of commuters in the metropolis. Minister Memon also revealed that the government will purchase 1,000 additional Pink EV Scooters to be distributed among women to facilitate easier and safer mobility.
To bridge the gap between districts, the People’s Bus Service is expanding its reach. New inter-city routes from Khairpur to Rohri and Khairpur to Ranipur are scheduled to launch next week, while plans are also in motion to introduce similar services in Larkana, Dadu, Sehwan, Hyderabad, and Sanghar. During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed the progress of the upcoming EV Taxi Service and various proposed mass transit projects.
“Our goal is to provide a world-class, affordable, and eco-friendly transport system for the people of Sindh,” said Sharjeel Memon, emphasizing that the expansion of the mass transit system remains a top priority for the provincial administration.
