KARACHI – Sindh Minister for Local Government, Nasir Hussain Shah, has formally invited industrialists from Gujranwala to set up manufacturing units in Sindh’s industrial zones, promising streamlined “one-window” operations to facilitate their investment. The Minister extended this offer while speaking to the media during the inauguration of the three-day “Made in Gujranwala” exhibition, organized by the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) at the Karachi Expo Centre.
Strategic Benefits for Industry
Highlighting the logistical advantages of Karachi, Nasir Hussain Shah noted that setting up industries in the port city would significantly reduce costs for Gujranwala-based businessmen. Proximity to the sea will slash the cost of importing raw materials, while finished products can be shipped globally with greater efficiency. The Sindh government will provide all necessary utilities and documentation support through a dedicated window operation to ensure a seamless experience for investors.
Regional Peace and Global Diplomacy
The Minister also touched upon the global geopolitical situation, stating that Pakistan is being hailed as a “guarantor of peace” following the successful de-escalation of potential global conflicts. He credited the leadership of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and the Field Marshal for their successful diplomacy in achieving a ceasefire. He remarked that while enemies of peace like Netanyahu and Modi are unhappy with Pakistan’s diplomatic success, there is increasing unity among Islamic nations who were previously at odds.
Economic Outlook and Energy
The Minister hinted at major developments in the energy sector, referencing President Asif Ali Zardari’s discussions regarding gas pipelines, predicting significant progress in oil and gas supplies for the industry soon.
Exhibition Highlights
President of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Ali Humayun, shared key statistics regarding the exhibition and Gujranwala’s industrial prowess. He noted that 65 companies from Gujranwala have set up 150 stalls at the Karachi Expo Centre. Gujranwala is currently home to 21,000 SMEs that export manufactured goods worth $3.5 billion to 68 countries. Humayun emphasized that Karachi remains the vital gateway for international trade, and its role in supporting the country’s import-export activities is indispensable.
The “Made in Gujranwala” exhibition aims to bridge the gap between northern industrial hubs and the commercial capital of Karachi, fostering a new era of domestic business synergy.
