Sindh Government Launches Strict Crackdown Against Illegal Constructions And Dilapidated Buildings

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing, and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, chaired a high-level meeting of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to address systemic urban challenges across the province, particularly in Karachi. During the session, the provincial government announced a strict, zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized structures and dilapidated buildings, granting a final 15-day grace period to identify and rectify violations. Following this deadline, strict and indiscriminate action—including immediate departmental accountability—will be enforced against any negligent officials.

To ensure early intervention, the minister ordered the overhaul of SBCA’s intelligence and monitoring framework, mandating daily progress reports and the formation of specialized demolition teams that will coordinate closely with district administrations and law enforcement agencies. Aligning with broader leadership directives, the One-Window Operation is being optimized for transparency and citizen convenience, alongside the establishment of town-level SBCA networks to ease the processing of building plans and NOCs with an emphasis on professional public dealing.

Furthermore, to ensure institutional synergy, the SBCA will improve collaboration with the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and the Master Plan Department while strengthening its internal legal framework. Concluding the meeting, authorities were directed to urgently arrange temporary housing solutions for families affected by dilapidated buildings to reinforce public trust and safety.
