KARACHI: Pakistan’s maritime and port sectors are making significant strides toward self-reliance under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms, driven by enhanced domestic dredging capabilities, upgraded energy supply chains, and sweeping digital customs transformations. At the core of this transformation, the National Dredging and Marine Services (NDMS)—a collaborative venture uniting the National Logistics Corporation, Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, and Gwadar Port Authority—is successfully reducing reliance on foreign entities for port maintenance and building domestic technical capacity. Complementing this, infrastructure and logistics are seeing major upgrades through the implementation of the Single Point Mooring project, which strengthens the national energy supply chain, alongside a dedicated freight corridor developed in partnership with DP World to streamline cargo movement through the Port of Karachi. Furthermore, the introduction of automated risk-based monitoring, digital enforcement systems, and streamlined electronic customs licensing is driving comprehensive digital transformation by enhancing transparency and efficiency across all trade operations.
