KARACHI – Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has called upon the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) to utilize its position in the federal government to address the worsening electricity crisis in Sindh. Speaking on the floor of the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday, Memon pointed out that despite being a key partner in the federal coalition, MQM has yet to effectively advocate for the people regarding unannounced power cuts.
Key Highlights of the Statement: Memon suggested that MQM should hold press conferences against the Federal Government and K-Electric, urging them to raise their voice in cabinet meetings where it matters most. He criticized power distribution companies for their incompetence, labeling their current tactics as unconstitutional. He further slammed the practice of “collective punishment,” where entire neighborhoods face power outages because the authorities fail to recover dues from individual defaulters. Memon highlighted the severity of the situation, stating that rural areas are enduring up to 18 hours of load-shedding, while urban centers are facing 12-hour blackouts.
“The federal government must stop this injustice against Sindh. Power companies cannot hide their own failures by punishing the common citizen,” Memon stated during the session.
The Information Minister emphasized that the Sindh government expects its federal partners to prioritize the basic needs of the province’s residents over political convenience.
