KARACHI: In a major move to alleviate chronic traffic congestion, the Government of Sindh has announced the upcoming reopening of the mixed traffic lane on University Road. This crucial decision was finalized during a high-level review meeting concerning the Red Line BRT project, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon. The session brought together key stakeholders, including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, CEO of TransKarachi Zubair Channa, and project consultants, to evaluate the current construction milestones and address immediate bottlenecks hindering progress.
During the briefing, officials assured that construction is moving at a rapid pace through robust inter-departmental collaboration. Emphasizing the project’s significance, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon categorized the Red Line BRT as a revolutionary and top-priority initiative for the city, explicitly directing all relevant departments to fulfill their responsibilities effectively to meet the stipulated deadlines. He reiterated the Sindh Government’s firm commitment to transforming Karachi’s commuting landscape by delivering safe, modern, and eco-friendly public transit facilities for its citizens.
