Rain Lashes Karachi Under New Weather System, Heavy Downpour Expected Throughout the Day

KARACHI – A fresh western weather system has entered the city, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across various neighborhoods early Thursday morning. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted continued rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Morning Rain Disrupts Commute

The city woke up to dark clouds followed by a significant downpour. While the rain turned the weather pleasant, it caused difficulties for students and office-goers during the morning rush hour. Rainfall was reported in Defense, Clifton, Saddar, Kemari, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Tariq Road, Sharea Faisal, Malir, MET Complex, and Baldia Town.

Weather Forecast & Alerts

According to the PMD, the western system is moving in from Balochistan and is expected to stay active until April 4. Thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls are expected across Karachi today, accompanied by strong winds and dust storms that may pose a risk to weak structures and trees. Rain is also predicted for Friday in Karachi and other districts of rural Sindh.

Government Response and Safety Measures

The Sindh Government has issued a high-alert notice to all relevant departments. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that comprehensive arrangements have been made to tackle potential urban flooding. Leaves for essential staff have been cancelled, and officials are instructed to remain in the field for real-time monitoring.

Additional de-watering pumps have been deployed at pre-identified choking points and low-lying areas to ensure timely drainage. The government has urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement during the rain.

“Ensuring the safety of citizens is our top priority. We have deployed teams to monitor critical points and ensure timely drainage of rainwater,” said Minister Memon.

Emergency Contact: Residents are advised to contact relevant local authorities immediately in case of any emergency.
