KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has issued a province-wide alert for heavy rains and strong winds, urging both authorities and the general public to take immediate precautionary measures.
Weather Forecast & Affected Areas
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected across Sindh during two spells. The first spell is predicted for March 25th and 26th, while the second spell will hit on March 28th and 29th. The districts likely to be impacted include Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Larkana.
Potential Risks and PDMA Directives
PDMA Director General Salman Shah has directed staff to remain on high alert with all necessary machinery to handle any emergencies swiftly. The authority warned that strong winds and potential hailstorms may damage weak structures and solar panels. Additionally, standing crops in various regions are at risk of damage, and a noticeable drop in temperature is expected following the rains.
Advisory for Citizens and Farmers
The authorities have issued specific guidelines for the public and agricultural sector. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while tourists and travelers should exercise extreme caution during the predicted dates. Furthermore, farmers are urged to take proactive measures to protect their crops from wind and hail.
Administrative Response
In response to the forecast, Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah chaired a high-level meeting attended by all Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Assistant Commissioners. The Chief Secretary has officially placed the provincial administration on high alert, ordering all field officers to remain on the ground and monitor the situation closely to ensure the immediate resolution of public grievances.
