KARACHI – Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that while the provincial government has declared a public holiday for Jamat-ul-Wida, rallies on Shara-e-Faisal will not be permitted due to legal constraints.
In a video statement released ahead of Al-Quds Day, the Minister shared several key decisions made by the Sindh government:
- Public Holiday: A province-wide public holiday has been officially declared for Jamat-ul-Wida (the last Friday of Ramadan).
- Honorary Naming: In a significant move, a major artery in Karachi will be named after the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, to honor his standing in the Muslim world.
- Shara-e-Faisal Restriction: Addressing the organizers of Al-Quds Day processions, Shah clarified that no rallies will be allowed on Shara-e-Faisal, citing standing court orders regarding the city’s main thoroughfare.
- Adherence to Routes: The Minister urged all Shia organizations and participants to stick to their traditional, designated routes for the processions and to ensure full compliance with the law.
“Our priority is to ensure that Al-Quds Day gatherings are held in a peaceful, organized, and respectful manner,” Nasir Hussain Shah stated, appealing to the public for cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The provincial government’s decision aims to balance the religious sentiments of the citizens with the logistical and legal requirements of maintaining traffic flow on the city’s busiest lifeline.
