KARACHI: A 32-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in a targeted attack outside a mosque in North Karachi’s Sector 5-C/1, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, early Friday morning.
The victim, identified as Rehan, son of Ghulam Nabi, was targeted as he was exiting the Farooq-e-Azam Mosque after offering Fajr prayers. According to police sources, the attackers were lying in wait on a motorcycle and fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Incident Details
The incident took place in Sector 5-C/1, North Karachi, near Rahmania Morr. The victim sustained a single fatal gunshot to the back of the head. Following the attack, the body was transported to the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station via Edhi ambulance and later shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
The Investigation: A Possible Crime of Passion
Initial police investigations suggest the incident is a case of targeted killing rooted in personal enmity. Rehan had married just six months ago to a woman he had loved since childhood. The woman had previously been married to someone else, with whom she has a 12-year-old son, but she later sought a divorce to marry Rehan.
“The victim was shot once in the head from behind. We suspect the involvement of the woman’s former husband, though we are investigating all possible angles,” a Karachi Police spokesperson stated.
At the time of the incident, the victim’s mother was away in Hyderabad. The police have collected evidence from the crime scene and are currently recording statements from witnesses and family members to apprehend the suspects.
